WhatsApp AI chatbot for small business: filter the noise, keep the customers

Your customers are already on WhatsApp — the question is who answers first. How an AI bot on the WhatsApp Business API handles the repetitive 80% and hands real customers to you.

For a huge share of small businesses — especially outside the US — the storefront isn't the website. It's WhatsApp. Customers don't fill out contact forms; they message you at 22:40 asking if you're open tomorrow.

The problem isn't being on WhatsApp. You already are. The problem is that you are the chatbot: every opening-hours question, every price check, every "do you deliver to my area" interrupts your actual work — or waits until you have a free minute, by which point the customer may have messaged your competitor.

What an AI bot on WhatsApp actually does

Zedinga connects to the official WhatsApp Business API (Meta Cloud API). Once your number is linked:

  • Incoming messages hit your bot first. It answers from your own website content — the same knowledge base that powers your web widget, so the two channels never contradict each other.
  • It replies in the customer's language automatically (12 supported).
  • Every conversation lands in the same dashboard as your website chats — one inbox, tagged by channel.

The part people worry about: losing the personal touch

Fair worry — WhatsApp is personal. Two design decisions address it:

The bot is a filter, not a wall. When a conversation needs a human — the customer asks for one, or your bot hits a question it can't answer — it hands off to your team's Live Chat inbox. You reply from the dashboard and the answer goes back out through WhatsApp. The customer never leaves the thread; from their side it's one continuous conversation.

It never bluffs. The bot answers only from the content you gave it. Off-script questions get an honest "let me connect you" instead of an invented answer. On WhatsApp, where messages feel personal, a confidently wrong bot is worse than no bot.

What it looks like in practice

A typical evening for a shop with the bot connected: six opening-hours/price/shipping questions answered instantly, one product question answered from the catalog with a link, one customer who typed "I want to talk to someone" waiting in your Live Chat inbox with the full transcript attached — and that's the only notification you got.

Setup honesty

Connecting the WhatsApp Business API requires a Meta developer setup (business verification, a phone number ID, an access token) — Meta's side takes longer than ours. Our side is a webhook URL and three fields in your bot's settings. If you can follow Meta's guide, you can do it in an afternoon; if not, get in touch and we'll walk you through it.

WhatsApp is part of the Growth plan, alongside human handoff — together with conversation flows, they turn a website bot into a full front desk.

Start free, get your website bot answering well first, then add WhatsApp when you're ready — the knowledge base carries over with zero extra work. The full channel overview is on our WhatsApp page.
