Looking for a Chatbase alternative? An honest comparison from a small vendor
Chatbase is a solid product — this isn't a hit piece. Where Zedinga differs: e-commerce depth, WhatsApp, human handoff, and flat pricing. Decide with your own checklist.
Let's start honest: Chatbase is a good product. It popularized the "train a chatbot on your own data" workflow, the setup is genuinely fast, and for a lot of use cases it's a perfectly reasonable choice. This isn't a hit piece — it's a checklist for figuring out which tool fits your situation. (Competitor features and pricing change; verify the current state on their site before deciding.)
Where the products genuinely differ
E-commerce depth. Most bot builders treat e-commerce as "crawl the store's pages." Zedinga connects to Shopify directly: your product catalog syncs into the bot daily (live prices, product links), and customers can check their order status inside the chat with order-number + email verification. If you sell physical products, this category of question is 30-40% of your support volume — ask any tool you evaluate exactly how it handles "where is my order?", and whether the answer involves identity verification.
Human handoff and a real agent inbox. Some tools stop at "the bot answers or it doesn't." Zedinga ships a Live Chat inbox: the bot escalates to your team, agents reply from the dashboard (replies flow back to the web widget or WhatsApp), with canned responses, internal notes, and reassignment. If "sometimes a human needs to take over" describes your business, weigh this heavily.
WhatsApp as a first-class channel. Via the official Meta Cloud API, sharing the same knowledge base as your website widget. Evaluate this if your customers live on WhatsApp — many SMB audiences outside the US do.
Flat, conversation-based pricing. Zedinga plans are flat monthly tiers by conversation volume ($0 / $29 / $79 / $199) with the feature list public on the pricing page. Whatever tool you pick, model your real monthly volume against its pricing unit — message credits, conversations, or seats — because the same traffic can cost wildly different amounts under different units.
Where Chatbase may fit you better. If you want a broader catalog of integrations and templates than we offer, or you're building a quick internal prototype rather than a customer-facing support channel, the bigger player's breadth is a real argument. We're a small team; we go deep on e-commerce, channels, and honesty features rather than wide on everything.
The evaluation that actually settles it
Skip the feature matrices (including ours). Do this instead:
- Take your five hardest real customer questions — the ones with nuance, the ones where a wrong answer costs you.
- Set up a free bot on each tool with your actual website content. Both take minutes.
- Ask the five questions. Watch for the failure mode that matters: does the bot admit what it doesn't know, or does it improvise? A bot that bluffs on question 4 will bluff to your customers.
- If you're e-commerce: ask "where is my order?" and see what happens.
You can run that test against our production bots before even signing up — three of them are live on real businesses right now, linked on our case studies page.
Start the free plan — no credit card — and put us through the same five questions. If we lose, use what won.
